On March 17, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic held an anniversary event titled “A Century of Voice: 100th Anniversary of Telephone Communication in Nakhchivan” dedicated to the establishment of telephone communication in Nakhchivan.

The participants of the event visited the monument to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the main square of Nakhchivan city and laid flowers in front of the monument, paying tribute to the memory of the Great Leader.

The event, which took place at the Nakhchivan State Technical College, was attended by heads of state institutions, employees of the communications sector, and digital volunteers.

The participants first got acquainted with the exhibition and viewed exhibits reflecting the development path of the communications sector. It should be noted that the exhibition displayed historical telephone sets, archival photos and documents, as well as pictures reflecting the stages of development of telephone communication.

In the official part of the event, the dear memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the Motherland and the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute of silence, then the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played. Then, a video clip titled “From 1926 to the Present” reflecting the history of the establishment and development of telephone communication in Nakhchivan was shown.

Then, Azer Mammadrahimov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Acting Minister, spoke about the stages of development of the communications sector. He said that the decision made in 1926 laid the foundation for the formation of a modern communications system in Nakhchivan. It was emphasized that the innovations implemented in the last hundred years, the applied modern technologies and the created infrastructure have made a significant contribution to the improvement of public administration, the expansion of economic activity and the improvement of the quality of services provided to the population.

The Deputy Minister noted that currently the development of communications and digital services in Nakhchivan is one of the priorities of state policy, and in the coming years, consistent measures will be continued to introduce innovative technologies, expand digitalization and increase the accessibility of modern services.

Then, Ismayil Hajiyev, Chairman of the Nakhchivan Branch of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Mehman Mammadov, Head of the State Archives Department of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and Asaf Rushanov, Director of the Nakhchivan State Technical College, shared their views on the historical development stages of the communications sector, achievements, application of modern technologies and future development prospects. It was stated in the speeches that the rapid development of information and communication technologies has a significant impact on improving the quality of communications services, increasing flexibility in management and accelerating the socio-economic development of the region.

Also speaking at the event were Honored Communications Officer Samaya Guliyeva, who has worked in the field of communications for many years, Elbrus Gojayev, who has been distinguished for his long-term work, as well as a young employee, a participant in the Second Karabakh War, Turgay Maharramov, who shared their memories and impressions.

On the occasion of the anniversary, a group of employees who have worked effectively in the field of communications for many years were awarded honorary certificates and gifts.

The artistic part of the event included live musical performances, a performance by the Ministry's employee Tahmin Bagirov, and dance and musical numbers performed by the "Buta" dance group of the Nakhchivan State Technical College.
